We have been attempting to potty train Owen for quite some time now. He turned 3 in August - so we have been ready for a long, long, long, long, long time. He has just been so stubborn about it and the advice we kept hearing was "follow their lead", "they'll let you know when they are ready", "don't rush it", etc. Let's just say that two kids in diapers is hard on the budget and the parents and we were sick of it.
We also had been talking with Owen a lot about potty training and he has been incredibly resistant. We tried bribing with food, money, new underwear, candy, sticker chart, etc., etc., etc. Nothing worked.
This week I was just at my wits end - and we were almost out of diapers.
During the day, Owen gets to watch PBS kids for about an hour in the morning and usually gets to watch some TV or movie later in the day. I decided to withhold this to see if he would go potty. He asked to watch TV and I said he had to go potty first.
He cried.
And cried.
And begged.
And cried some more.
It was about an hour later he asked to go potty.
I had him sit on his potty chair for about 1/2 hour and he peed in the potty! A lot!
I had made the decision that he was going to wear underwear all day after that. He did wonderfully letting me know when he had to go potty and only had two accidents.
Saturday was another great potty day - he even went #2! Again, only two accidents.
We are so happy that this is the beginning of the end of diapers for Owen - and possibly Audrey - she has been such a copycat lately that she wants to sit on the potty as well! What would it be like to have no kids in diapers?

Clive was 3 and 3 months when it happened. I bought a very cool set of cars from the Pixar Cars movie and told him that he could pick one out every time he pooped in the toilet. If he just went pee, he got jelly beans. It worked like a charm. He could carry around the cool tin the cars came in, but couldn't have one until he pooped.
Good luck! A potty trained child is a joy only a mom can appreciate.
So exciting! I can tell you from experience, 2 out of diapers is heaven. (Of course, then I had to go and get 2 more in diapers...)It's amazing how much moolah it frees up! Good luck - you're on the way!!!
yeah congratulations! I want to potty train Noelle, but she isn't so interested yet.
