Our Garden

When I was a kid, we always had a garden. I really never wanted anything to do with it, it was kind of my Dad's thing and he always grew things I didn't like as a kid, but I love now (tomatoes, zucchini, peppers, etc). Now that I am a "grown-up" I actually have thoroughly enjoyed gardening (although I felt forced into it by the former owner of our house - she was an avid gardener - so many flowerbeds!). We have this perfect spot for a vegetable garden, so this year I am trying my hand at vegetable gardening. I was a bit late in planting, so I bought already started plants from Home Depot. The selection wasn't great - so here is what we have:
  • 4 tomato plants (I can't wait to can them!)
  • 2 hot pepper plants (salsa anyone?)
  • a crook neck yellow squash plant (yum!)
  • a pumpkin plant
Also in our garden spot (below)- which I love - are strawberries and raspberries. We have already picked the first ripened strawberries, so yummy!

If anyone has a great jam recipe for raspberries or strawberries, please let me know!

Looks like you have a wonderful garden. For jam recipes, My mom and I use the recipe for freezer jam out of the pectin. It seems to be wasy fast, and good!

I'm with Liz - we couldn't live without our Pectin freezer jam! For anyone who doesn't have fresh berries, frozen berries work just as well. Good luck and have fun with your garden - the kids will be thrilled to see the produce!
